The holidays are just around the corner! From Thanksgiving dinner to family visits during the holidays, in addition to planning the festivities and the menus, also make sure your home is prepared! Prevent last minute scrambling by following these tips to get your spaces holiday ready.
1. Prepare Your Main Spaces
You don’t need to makeover your home from top to bottom. Think about the areas that your guests will see and focus on those – like the kitchen, living room, dining room, entryway and front porch. In addition to a good cleaning, spruce up these areas to create a welcoming space. From throw pillows and blankets to new area rugs and accent lighting, there are tons of decor options that will make a great impression without making a dent on your wallet!

2. Get the Guest Space Ready
Whether you’re planning on having family or friends stay the night or are getting ready for a longer visit, make sure your guest space is ready for the occasion! From a converted office space to a dedicated guest bedroom, in addition to a comfy place to sleep, also make sure your space has all of the items your guests will need but might not remember to pack. Stock your guest spaces with fresh linens, extra towels and pillows, iron/ironing board, tissues, basic toiletries, mirror, and a hair dryer.

3. Ensure Ample Seating
From entertaining a large crowd to more intimate gatherings, make sure you have enough seating! Adding an extra armchair or temporarily rearranging your space to bring in a love-seat from another room can help you accommodate all your guests and keep them comfortable! For every seat, have a surface close by to serve as a space for drinks and other items by adding side tables or a console table behind the couch. The last thing you want is a mess to clean up!
4. Keep Floors Clean
This seems like an obvious one, but giving your floors a thorough cleaning will help you make a great first impression on guests. In addition to looking great, take the steps to ensure your flooring is protected from the extra foot traffic it will be seeing this season. For refinished floors like hardwoods, applying a fresh coat of floor finish or hardwood floor polish might go a long way. From salty boots to melted snow being tracked in, it’s also a good idea to prepare your entryways with a mat and space for shoes to be stored until guests leave. 5. Add Finishing Touches
You don’t have to go overboard on decorations to make your home feel festive. Put together a table setting that incorporates seasonal elements while leaving ample space for serving up and enjoying a meal with your favorites. Add some twinkle to a banister or a holiday wreath on your front door. Create a welcoming front porch by adding a few decorations.
